Quadzoo? Well thanks to my new good friend SeldomSeenSmith for the name, I love it! And yes, while looking for a new dirt bike I came across a sale, yes a SALE of new quads for less than half of new. They are hold-overs from 2008 but I really don't care, they look like little rocketships!! But look, Mrs. Whazoo says I'll be labeled as two-faced for posting this, and I don't think she means because I'm a Gemini. Now I don't know what two-faced is, but I do think she really means that I am multi-faceted. So after finding the sale and buying enough atv's to start my own rental business the issue was how to get them back to our favorite place in the world to ride...Anza Borrego. I'm thinking that's where the two-faced thingy comes in, pictures to follow... As you can see, my Outfitter has grown tremendously. NOT! I now need a very large trailer to haul toys behind the tc. Since I don't have a very large trailer yet, I rented one. It came with a house inside. I always hated those huge triple axle trailers that are such ostentatious displays of self indulgence and entitlement. Now...I WANT ONE. (See, two-faced) But renting will have to do temporarily, as of course I am still in love with my Outfitter. And after getting a larger trailer, I will tow it behind the tc with reckless abandon. Well, maybe with careful considerations. But back to Anza Borrego we go, it has 80,000 acres of off road heaven and I've been riding there since the early 70's. It's my favorite place to eat dirt, or breath it as it seems to hang in front of our camp. The black quad is a rental, as a new quad has already had issues and isn't running. Don't we ALL have issues with ALL things ALL the time? Or is it just me? Quadzoo leads the pack of Quadzettes across the desert ridges. We'll call it the whole famn damily picture. Why do I call it the famn damily? Well of course, I have dain brammage from too much sun. Has anybody ever said that before? Little Joe asks "can someone give me a hand and throw the damn thing instead of taking a picture?" Actually Little Joe has recently lost his hearing, and we can now say "ball" without having to spell it. Funny how that is with some dogs. The terrain is so varied here, at times like a neat Disney ride...E ticket for sure. Hill climbs are a favorite, especially hills without rocks, as Quadzette Jen can attest. Unlike her Dad, who likes to eat donuts, Quadzette Jess likes to make donuts. Mrs. Quadzoo looks very otherworldly in her desert garb. I've always wondered, where did "garb" come from? Night riding is also a real treat and in the old days a poker run was...well...run, by dune buggies at night, miles of them. In the distance is a sand hill we call "Big Blow", the sand collects there from large sand storms like the one we had while camped this trip. Saturday nights there were a major party. We don't go any more, we're too old...or something like that. Of course that's us in the foreground. Heading to ride the badlands was a disappointment, as there was a fence around the best part of it. We were befuddled to say the least. Come to find out, a developer has somehow bought it and has plans for 1200 houses. I call it greed, you can call it however you see it. The girls are at the base of the "mounds." There are still many trails around the badlands so I didn't get too worked up over the shock of it all, but certainly hope the developer loses his shirt, his pants, shoes AND socks over it all. Let me introduce you to the Quadzettes, Jess and Jen. Who needs boys, these girls have done it all, and still give Dad back rubs. Jess being a masseuse has nothing to do with it. Mrs. Quadzoo and Quadzette Jess. Us ol folks have special googles, so our glasses fit inside! I'm thinking Stormship Troopers or something. Whatever they were called in Starwars. Quadzette Jess and Bear the Wonderdog. Yes, the dog that eats stripped squirrels. When we're not riding our quads, we ride our dogs... This just in, a pot of gold was discovered this afternoon by the Quadzoo. He no longer needs your donations for a new camera. My little orphan waifs, waiting for my very small fire to become very big. That VW block should do the trick! Ever do that? It lights up the desert for 5 miles and makes it very hard to stare at the fire, being made of magnesium and all. Hard to do s'mores too! Also, does it look like a storm brewing behind the girls? It always does that, but never rains on us. Guess that's why there aren't any trees or swimming holes. I always wanted to bring a little kiddie swim pool out here, never did. We did bring a swing set one time... In all the places I've ever camped, and all the skies I've ever seen, nothing has ever compared to Anza Borrego and we weren't disappointed this time either. Good night Folks, and thanks for reading. Dave Rogers, aka Quadzoo Originally posted on rv.net 12/06/09 |
